Meta pulls Muse Image’s most controversial capability
After days of backlash, Meta withdrew the ability to prompt Muse Image directly on Instagram accounts. The broader Instagram-grounding feature — drawing on public content for social context — still ships.
-
Muse Spark 1.1 launches with the Meta Model API
Meta released the family’s language model and opened the Meta Model API in public preview for US developers. It serves Muse Spark only — neither Muse Image nor Muse Video is available through it.
-
Privacy backlash over Instagram photos
Reports confirmed Muse Image can reference public Instagram photos without notifying the people in them. Private accounts are excluded by default; public accounts can opt out via Settings → Sharing and Reuse.

Muse Image launches; Muse Video previewed
Meta Superintelligence Labs shipped its first media models. Muse Image went live in the Meta AI app, meta.ai and Instagram Stories (US). Muse Video was previewed — same pretraining base, native audio, "coming soon to creators."
What we're watching for
- A public release date for Muse Video ("coming soon to creators" is the only timing language so far)
- Launch surface — an Instagram/Reels integration is the obvious play given Muse Image shipped inside Stories on day one
- Regional availability (Muse Image was US-first; expect the same pattern)
- Whether Muse Video reaches the Meta Model API — Muse Spark already has one, Muse Image does not
- Clip length, resolution and usage limits — none of it is public yet
Reading Meta's pattern
The best predictor for the Muse Video rollout is how the same lab shipped Muse Image five days before this page was first published: announced and live the same day, US-only, inside existing Meta surfaces (Meta AI app, Instagram Stories), Meta account required, no API. If Muse Video follows the family playbook, expect a creators-first Instagram/Reels integration in the US before anything international or developer-facing.
One genuine wildcard: the API question. Meta opened the Meta Model API for Muse Spark (the text model) on July 9 — proof the company is willing to expose Muse models to developers. If Muse Video ever reaches that API, third-party video tools built on it become possible overnight. That's the single most consequential thing we track here.
