Muse Image, Explained

Updated 2026-07-12 · Live — US, inside Meta products

Muse Image is the first image generation model from Meta Superintelligence Labs, launched July 7, 2026 — and the live half of the family whose video sibling this site tracks. It's genuinely strong: it debuted at No. 2 on the Arena leaderboard for text-to-image, single-image editing and multi-image editing.

What makes it different

Where you can use it

A Meta account is required everywhere. Outside the US, the tool simply doesn't appear yet.

The privacy controversy and the opt-out

Within hours of launch, reports confirmed Muse Image can reference public Instagram photos — real people's likenesses — without notifying them. Meta has since pulled the most contested capability (prompting directly on Instagram accounts), but the underlying social-context feature ships. If your Instagram account is public and you want out:

  1. Open Instagram → Settings
  2. Select Sharing and Reuse
  3. Toggle off "Allow people to reuse your content on Instagram and with AI features at Meta."

Private accounts are excluded by default — no toggle needed.

Can't access it? The usable alternatives

Because there's no API, no third-party site can offer real Muse Image — including this one. The honest move is the models it competes with on the same leaderboard, usable from any country without a Meta account: Nano Banana 2, Seedream 4.5 and GPT Image 2 — all runnable side-by-side on Yix with free starting credits.

Why this page lives on a "video" site

Muse Image is the best preview we have of the Muse video generator: same pretraining base, same lab, same launch playbook. How Meta rolled out, restricted and course-corrected Muse Image is our best evidence for how Muse Video will arrive — tracked on the release date page.
